Me Flying My Glory Rack 31 Flavors In The Desert

I started out in life as an Army brat. Ft. Hood, Germany, & Ft. Riley. My dad was a Helicopter Pilot (check out one of his short timer missions in Vietnam).  I had helicopters in my blood.  At the age of 3 took a ride in the "Hell Hole" a few times.

I enlisted in the Army Reserve 872nd Medical Detachment.  The proud son of a Vietnam Helicopter Pilot, I wanted my stint with the UH-1.  I was going to be a Helicopter Mechanic & maybe a CREWCHIEF one day!

3 Oct 1983
- An enjoyable 8 weeks with E Co., 2nd Bat., in Ft. McClellan, AL.

1 Dec 1983
- 12 weeks of 67N Helicopter Mechanic school in Ft. Rucker AL. I earned my wings.

20 Sep 1990 - The 872nd was one of the first army reserve Medevac units mobilized for Desert Shield/Storm. As NCOIC of Crewchief's I happily deployed with the unit to Ft. Polk, LA.  3 days of in-processing and the 872nd Cajun Medevac assumed the Post Dustoff & Mast missions.

15 Jan 1991 - 872nd Cajun Medevac arrived in Daharan, Saudi Arabia.  We were ready for the coming STORM!

17 Sep 1996 - 872nd Medical Company is inactivated.  After 13 years and even turning down a promotion (Congrats! Now your not a Crewchief anymore! , No thanks!) the Army offered me a position as a "wheeled vehicle mechanic" in another unit (No thanks again!).  I opted to spend the remainder of my re-enlistment in the IRR.

I miss the 872nd, I miss flying in the UH-1V Huey, I miss my friends once a month,
It is a shame this unit was closed.

CLEAR!!!
